Bequests

|
| Choosing to name WPC in your will is as simple as adding a codicil to an existing document. |
|
How many times have you wished you could support a WPC program but just didn't have the expendable resources to give a gift at the level you knew would most benefit the organization's needs? Many of us have this exact same problem.
With a bequest gift, which designates a gift to Western Pennsylvania Conservancy in your will, members and special friends provide magnanimous support for WPC without affecting their current income levels. A charitable bequest can position assets passed on to heirs so as to take advantage of tax and other financial benefits.
You choose the bequest gift that works best for you. You can designate a percentage or a residual of your estate, a specific dollar amount, assets, or personal property to be used as a gift to WPC. Your generosity will leave a legacy that will make you a cherished part of the organization's future efforts to preserve Fallingwater® and to transform communities by reclaiming blighted spaces through the planting of beautiful and vibrant gardens, instilling local pride, and creating new cadres of caring citizens who have dedicated themselves to revitalizing their towns and cities.
Sample Language for Wills:
Dollar Amount: "I hereby bequeath the sum of $______ to Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, a not-for-profit, charitable organization incorporated under the laws of Pennsylvania and presently having offices at 209 Fourth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA, 15222."
Percentage: "I hereby bequeath __ percent of my estate to Western Pennsylvania Conservancy...(as above)."
Remainder Value: "I hereby bequeath all the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate to Western Pennsylvania Conservancy...(as above)."
Real Estate: "I hereby devise and bequeath _____________ to Western Pennsylvania Conservancy for such purposes as the organization's trustees may determine is most appropriate and place no restriction on the use of this gift. Western Pennsylvania Conservancy is a not-for-profit organization...(as above)."
Please Note: If you are considering a gift of land, we request that you notify us in advance so that we may discuss your intentions so to ensure that your gift is handled according to your wishes.
The making of a will ensures that assets are distributed according to the wishes of their owner, not their state of residence.
What if I already have a will?
You need only to call your attorney and advise him or her of your interest in making a bequest. In most cases, a bequest may be stated by the creation of a codicil to your existing will.
What if I don't have a will?
If you didn't write and sign a will, state law wrote and signed one for you. It is called the law of intestacy, and it can give your estate to that long lost cousin that you never liked. It will never give money to Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, no matter how strongly you might want this. And, if it can't find any other relatives, it will simply take your estate by default and let the legislature spend it as it sees fit. Your wishes will be ignored.
Please Note: To leave your inheritance to loved ones and to special organizations, contact your attorney today about creating a will.
