Pine Swamp is part of State Game Lands #130. The property was originally purchased by Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, and is now stewarded by the Pennsylvania Game Commission. This 635-acre property contains several distinct wetland types. It harbors an interesting variety of plant and animal life, including bog bluegrass (Pennsylvania Threatened) and soft-leaved sedge (Pennsylvania Rare). The area is the headwaters of two streams, Wolf Creek and Fox Run, which flow to the south and north. The bog/peatland in Mercer County started 15,000 years ago with meltwater from the Wisconsinan glacier. It is charged by precipitation, and is the source of Wolf Creek, which flows to the south.
