The Flower with Power

Purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea (L.) Moench) is a wildflower native to prairies of the Midwestern United States. For generations, Native Americans knew of the power of this plant in treating and preventing many different ailments. Echinacea purpurea (as well as a few other species of Echinacea) is best known for its immune system-enhancing ability. Today, this flower is cultivated in perennial gardens both as an ornamental that displays beautiful purplish blooms, and as an herb with documented health benefits.

Note: Although many plants have medical benefits, some can also cause allergic reactions, adverse affects resulting from interactions with drugs, and potentially other problems. Western Pennsylvania Conservancy recommends consulting a physician before initiating a regimen of therapy using herbal remedies.
