The Spotted Jewelweed (Impatiens capensis) - Nature's Antedote to Poison Ivy This summer bloomer is also called "spotted touch-me-not" for the ripe fruits will explode when touched. When in flower, it is quite attractive with red-spotted orange flowers that grow in mass in wet shady spots in woodlands and swamps. The sap from the jewelweed is used by many to relieve reactions to poison ivy if applied right away. Pale jewelweed (I. pallid) is similar but has yellow flowers. Jewelweeds can grow up to 8 feet and, due to their late blooming time, and they are an important nectar plant for migrating hummingbirds. Today's
