500 Floral Baskets Hang Out in Downtown Pittsburgh

Attractive surroundings bring people into the city, and vibrant urban spaces attract people who seek healthy places to live, work and raise families. That's why WPC's BloomSites program has been working with the City of Pittsburgh to place 500 live floral plantings and have them hang out on Pittsburgh's downtown streets and in the surrounding neighborhood business districts.

The program is not limited to the downtown area. BloomSites also recognizes the need to encourage community investment and believes flowers make places friendlier and more inviting, and convey a positive image of that community. WPC's hanging baskets can be seen in eight Pittsburgh neighborhoods, including North Side, West End, Carrick, Bloomfield, Allentown, Hazelwood, the Hill District and, new this year, Elliot, for a total of 139 baskets. A new venture, currently underway in the Shadyside/East Liberty area, adds an additional 17 baskets.

WPC has worked with more than 5,000 volunteers to plant more than 200 gardens in 19 western Pa. counties. Click here to view the fruits of their labor with our interactive map.
