The Eagles Have Landed State Representative Marc Gergely of Allegheny County is proposing to amend a state law to permit the flight of "Challenger," a bald eagle that makes special flights at major events across the nation. Pennsylvania state law currently forbids a handler of a "bird of prey" to release the bird for "free flight" because of a presumed danger to the public. Challenger's flight performances are legal in every other state. More information on this topic is available at www.eagles.org.
PPL Corporation is proud to announce the arrival of three more bald eagle
chicks for the third year in a row at the eagle nesting place on a PPL
electric transmission tower near the Holtwood dam in York County. The
public will have the opportunity to see the eagles during "watches"
at PPL's Holtwood Environmental Preserve on Saturday, June 14 and Wednesday,
June 25 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Lock 12 Historic Area under the guidance
of Jim Smith, PPL's Environmental Consultant. Information and photos are
available at www.pplweb.com/photogallery/holtwood_eagles/photogallery_main.htm Today's
photo was taken
this
past Easter Sunday morning by John
M. Karian, who is a WPC member and does nature photography in Venango
County. This
eagle is one of a pair which nests upriver from the WPC parcel at the
Sandy Creek /Allegheny confluence. The land is currently for sale through
our Conservation Buyer
Program.
The
program offers properties typically with conservation or recreational
amenities to those who love nature, the outdoors, and activities such
as hunting, fishing, camping and hiking. For more information call (412)
