Your First Toad House Toads are very good natural pest controllers for the garden. They feed upon one of the most troublesome pests, slugs, which in the early spring and summer garden will devour newly planted vegetables of several types. To encourage toads to visit and live in your garden, you can use an old terra cotta pot that has a chipped rim or other similar cover. Simply invert the pot and it will offer toads cooling shade from the sun, and good and sturdy shelter from predators. A good place to see an American toad like the one pictured today, is at almost any western Pennsylvania state park. E-mail Today's WPC Daily to a Friend!
