A glimpse of the very near future: Spring flowers at the Birmingham Bridge Western Pennsylvania Conservancy is partnering with communities in 20 counites to help add to the vibrancy of our towns and cities by creating dynamic gardens and green spaces. Based on the solid foundation of community engagement, Western Pennsylvania's Community Conservation Program has facilitated more than 600 floral and greening projects. This was achieved with the assistance of corporate sponsors, private foundations, community groups, schools, churches, government agencies and more than 5,000 youth and adult volunteers. This broad and diverse base of constituents works together to fund, plan, plant and maintain hundreds of community gardens and greenspaces. If you would like more information about volunteering to help plant a community garden this year, contact Marianne Cola at 412-586-2324 or e-mail her at mcola@paconserve.org. Community gardens and greening projects can be seen in major urban and suburban communities, in small neighborhoods, in business districts and schools as well as along highways. No two are alike and many reflect the personality of the community. A
favorite of many people who frequent the South Side section of Pittsburgh
is the garden located near the Birmingham Bridge (pictured above). This
garden includes a mixture of annual flowers and grasses to give the garden
a dramatic multi-color and multi-texture appearance that is highly visible
from a long distance. E-mail Today's WPC Daily to a Friend! Did you receive this WPC Daily from a friend? Want to get your own, every day? Click here to join the mailing list...
