Year Round Volunteers at Sideling Hill Creek

In the Sideling Hill Creek watershed, there is a citizen watershed group called the Ridge and Valley Streamkeepers. These volunteers conduct monthly monitoring of the creek’s water quality and share the information with other community members and local decision-makers. This dedicated group of individuals is working to keep Sideling Hill Creek in it’s current state of health by collecting the information needed to detect changes in the future. Being a volunteer water monitor is a 12 month-a-year job, no matter what the weather!

Pictured today, is Mike Jackson, a Ridge and Valley Streamkeepers volunteer monitor, who is chopping through ice to gather a water sample at Sideling Hill Creek.

Local communities who seek to beautify their neighborhoods or clean up a polluted stream are teaming up with WPC's staff in towns and cities across western Pennsylvania. Together we are making plans, implementing projects and seeking out other partners and resources to protect our region's special places into the future.
