Pa.'s Least Disturbed Glacial Lake

Lake Pleasant is home to nearly two dozen plants of special concern in Pa.
The cyprus-like sedge, Carex pseudocyperus, pictured right, is one of 11 Pa. endangered plants found there. Relatively free from invasive species, Lake Pleasant is a sanctuary for these plants.

Of the eight glacial lakes found in northwestern Pennsylvania, Lake Pleasant is the least disturbed and the one with the most significant natural qualities. Western Pennsylvania Conservancy has acquired 350 acres of shoreline, wetlands, and uplands to help protect its exceptional concentration of state endangered and threatened plant and animal species.
