The Perils of Canby's mountain-lover Canby's mountain-lover (Paxistima canbyi) is a globally imperiled plant that reaches the northern limit of its range in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, where it is protected at Western Pennsylvania Conservancy's Lutzville Cliffs Natural Area. Like conifers and rhododendrons, Canby's mountain-lover remains green throughout the winter. Pennsylvania's native flora includes many evergreen species, including teaberry (also known as wintergreen), box huckleberry (another globally imperiled species), princess-pine, many of our ferns, and almost all of our mosses.
