Hearts-a-bursting, a Native of Pennsylvania Share with your valentine a "hearts-a-bursting," which is a native plant of Pennsylvania -- but don't send the actual plant! This plant, also known as strawberry-bush, is under increasing stress by deer browsing. Plus, the fruits, seeds and bark are considered to be poisonous, so you won't want your valentine to eat it. WPC's Bear Run Nature Reserve near Fallingwater is one of only a handful of locations from which this species has been recorded in western Pennsylvania.
