Birds Who Live in Western Pa. Year Round

Some birds we see during the winter are year-round-residents like northern cardinal,
chickadees, tufted titmouse, nuthatches and downy woodpecker. Other birds are winter
residents--the tree sparrow, crossbills, and snow bunting.

From WPC's Lowville Fen Natural Area in the north, to Sideling Hill Creek in the south, these birds are finding winter habitats on protected lands.

The above photo was taken by WPC President Larry Schweiger and shows that chickadees are fearless enough to take seeds from a person's hand. In the above case, the hand of Larry's wife Clara Schweiger.
