Destination Thursday: The Holiday Season in Downtown Pittsburgh

The holiday season is a great time to experience downtown Pittsburgh. We've compiled a top ten list of reasons to consider making your way into the city in the coming weeks:

10.  Free Parking for up to two hours after 4 p.m. and all-day Saturday and Sunday at eight downtown garages.

 9.  Free Holiday Shopping Shuttle. A trolley stops at six locations across town.

 8. Nostalgic Saturdays - Hot-roasting chestnuts, strolling carolers, free carriage rides, window displays, live entertainment.

 7.  Pittsburgh Memories Photo Exhibit at PPG Place -See rare photos of downtown in winter, dating back to late 1800s.

 6. Live Theater, including CLO's Musical Christmas Carol at the Byham Theater and The "New" Nutcracker at the Benedum.

 5.  An 80-Foot-Tall Tree of Lights at Point State Park.

 4. The "Spirits Of Giving From Around The World" Exhibit at PPG Place Wintergarden.

 3. Santa - Greeting children from both the Fourth Floor of Lazarus and the Seventh Floor of Kaufmanns Department Stores.

 2. The Crèche Display at USX Plaza.

 1. The Rink at PPG Place, pictured above, is downtown Pittsburgh's only outdoor skating rink. The 104 foot by 104 foot diamond-shaped rink is decorated with a 65-foot Christmas tree, lighted continually throughout the holiday season.

Today's photos of PPG Plaza were taken from the Burke Building by WPC's Communication Specialist, Jack Rowley, during this year's Light Up Night.
