The Generosity of Landowners When an unrestricted donation of land is made to a conservation organization it is a winning combination for both the donor and the land trust. A donation involves a basic legal transaction resulting in an income tax deduction equal to the fair market value of the land for the donor as well as a source of income for the land trust. Communities across western Pennsylvania are enjoying nature reserves such as WPC's Bear Run Nature Reserve, recreation in our state parks, and green space in urban areas because of the generosity of landowners who have given gifts of land. In 2001, WPC received from a members the unrestricted donation of a 1.82-acre lot in the Borough of Fox Chapel, Allegheny County. After an assessment of the site's biological value by staff we determined that the lot would be appropriate to sell to a conservation–minded buyer to fund our conservation mission. This wooded lot is featured on our Conservation Buyer Program Web site and would be a great place for a single-family home. A portion of the property that gently slopes down to the stream is protected by a conservation easement held by the Fox Chapel Land Conservation Trust. To arrange a visit to the property, please contact Tucky Wolfson at Howard Hanna - 412-963-6300 ext. 29.E-mail Today's WPC Daily to a Friend!
