Come celebrate GIS Day at WPC on November 18th

Love maps? Don't like to fly but love the view? Come to WPC's downtown office at 209 Fourth Avenue, across from PPG plaza to learn more about GIS (geographic information systems) technology and how it is used at the Conservancy and elsewhere. There will be a map gallery and flash movie presentation. Our GIS staff (eclectic, but mostly harmless) will be on hand to guide you and answer your questions between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m on Tuesday, November 18th.

GIS Day is an international event when GIS users and vendors open their doors to schools, businesses, and the general public to showcase real-world applications of this important technology. GIS Day is part of the National Geographic Society's Geography Action program. Geography Action is an annual conservation and awareness program which includes GIS Day and Geography Awareness Week and is intended to educate people about our natural, cultural, and historic treasures. The theme of this year's Geography Awareness Week is "Habitats."

The National Geographic Society has sponsored Geography Awareness Week since 1987 to promote geographic literacy in schools, communities, and organizations, with a focus on the education of children. GIS Day 2003 will officially be held on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003. Geography Awareness Week 2003 will be held November 16-22, 2003.
