America Recycles Day November 15th is America Recycles Day (ARD). This nationwide celebration is designed to encourage people to recycle and buy products made from recycled materials. The theme for ARD is "Make Everyday America Recycles Day!" The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) offers a listing of local recycling centers . In Mercer County, for example, the Grove City Wal-Mart Recycling Depot Site (Pine Township, 1566 W. Main St. Ext. (Rt. 58), has nine recycling bins and collects the following items:
Remember that recycle is the third “R” in the three R's of wise resource use: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. So, when faced with the choice, consider carefully if you really need something, and once you have it, how you can make further use of it, keeping out of the waste stream as long as possible. Recycling is the last stop for many products that would otherwise find their way, in short order, to the local landfill. Today's WPC Daily was taken by WPC's Regional Specialist Kathy Trent and shows our community garden volunteers pulling out annual plants and bagging them for recycling, pulling up plastic (used for weed control), and raking the bed smooth for the winter months and next spring's planting.
