Fallingwater Rising: A New Look at Our House

Architectural Historian Franklin Toker will speak about his new book, Fallingwater Rising, at a lecture at the Carnegie Music Hall on Saturday, October 4, beginning ay 2 p.m. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Frank Toker has worked 18 years on his monumental history of what may be the greatest house on earth. His book, Fallingwater Rising: Frank Lloyd Wright, E.J. Kaufmann, and America's Most Extraordinary House, has just been published by the prestigious Knopf division of Random House, and is now available at the Fallingwater Museum Shop.

Prof. Toker's book provides new insight into Edgar Kaufmann, Sr, a man once called "America's smartest retailer" and his relationship with the great architect he hired. The book also takes a new, personal look at the Kaufmann family and how their lives were affected by living in and loving this masterpiece of modern architecture. Toker also highlights many people who were important on the national stage in the 1930s: Henry Luce and William Randolph Hearst, Frida Kahlo and Ayn Rand, even Albert Einstein and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Professor Toker will be in the Fallingwater Museum Shop October 22, 2003 to personally inscribe copies of his book.

For information on this weekend's lecture, call 412.648.2400 or visit Mr. Toker's Web site.
