Forestland Facts

  • Pennsylvania's public and private forestlands support a $5 billion forest products industry.
  • In Pennsylvania, private forest landowners own approximately 12 million acres of the forested land.
  • More than 90,000 families or individuals own 5 acres or more of forested land.
  • Collectively, all these landowners manage more than 70 percent of the forest resource that makes up Pennsylvania.
  • Currently, 1 billion board feet of timber are harvested annually.
  • The timber industry is one of the state's largest industries, with every dollar in timber sales yielding an estimated $17 worth of economic growth.
