Last Year's Fallingwater Restoration Unearthed a New Wright Idea

Removal of the stone pavers and subfloor for structural strengthening reveals Wright's original design ideas for Edgar Kaufmann Sr.'s Terrace. The beam structure allowed trees to rise through the terrace to emphasize the integration of house and site.

The photo above was taken around the winter of 1937 duringthe original construction of Fallingwater and shows the unique Wright idea of allowing trees to grow through the beam structure.
