New Born River Otter Pups

New-born river otter pups do not open their eyes for 5 weeks and remain in their mother's den until they are
3 to 4 months old.

Otter reintroductions in northwestern Pennsylvania began with the release of four otters in the Tionesta Creek basin in 1990. In addition, Maryland stocked 18 otters on the Youghiogheny River near Oakland in 1989 and 1990. The success of these programs is due, in part, to improved water quality and resulting improved fisheries.
