Pennsylvania's Glacial Lakes

Pennsylvania hosts about 2,500 natural and artificial lakes. There are only 70 natural lakes (greater than
20-acres in size). The remaining lakes are man-made. Natural lakes are mostly the result of glaciation.
TheWisconsin ice sheet was one mile thick in places and gouged out depressions, dropped dams of gravel and
dirt, and left behind huge blocks of ice that weighted down the land.

Pictured above is Lake Pleasant, a glacial lake located near Union City, Pa. in the northwestern corner of our state.
