Welcome to WPC Daily!
A message from Western Pennsylvania Conservancy President and CEO Larry Schweiger

Beginning this first day of the new year, we will be e-mailing daily photos and brief facts all highlighting the beauty and joy that can be found in our western Pennsylvania backyards.

For example, did you know that prehistoric man used Lake Pleasant as a refrigerator to store a butchered wooly mammoth?

By the end of this year you'll have a wellspring of information like that to enhance your next western Pa. outdoor excursion, help you create a beautiful garden, or just remind you of why protecting our western Pennsylvania resources is so important. You can help us to make our daily e-mails more meaningful, please give us your feedback.

Pictured left is a great horned owl, which lays its eggs in winter. Imagine a dedicated mother bird setting on her nest which lies beneath a couple of inches of snow.
