Audubon Raven Print This engraving, depicting a single black raven sitting on a hickory branch, is a plate from Audubon's series of 435 hand-colored aquatints entitled The Birds of America. This four-volume double elephant folio (named for its large size) was engraved in London by Robert Havell, Jr. from watercolors produced by John James Audubon. Between 175 and 200 of these folios were printed. The Audubon prints that are on display in the house once hung in the Kaufmanns' cottage on Bear Run. The Kaufmanns were avid birdwatchers and the 5,000-acre Bear Run Nature Reserve on which Fallingwater is located is also a designated "Important Bird Area" (IBA). IBAs are part of a dynamic worldwide effort to identify and protect outstanding habitats for birds. Members can tour Fallingwater for free tomorrow during our Wild in the Woods event. At $25, now is a good time to join WPC.
