Green Building Design for the Barn at FallingwaterTwo of the most eye-catching features of WPC's newly completed adaptive reuse of the Barn at Fallingwater are wheatboard panels and the straw panels. Both panels are made from renewable resources and add to the rich and varied interior finishes of the newly finished building. The wheatboard is made-up of sunflower seeds in resin and produced by Bio Composites of Mankato, Minnesota. Not only were the panels used for wall surfaces, but also for the built-in cabinetry. The 4 by 8 inch straw panels, bound by heavy gauge wire, are 1 ½ inches thick and manufactured by Bio Fab of Redding California. These are used both on the walls and also in ceiling of the building.
