Green Thumb Tuesday: Caring for Garden Tools

An old Chinese proverb states that a bad workman always blames his tools. By following a few simple steps, your tools could become the keys to a beautiful garden.

Tools, generally, exist in two forms:lower priced/lower quality and higher priced/higher quality tools. Lower priced tools serve gardening purposes adequately but their life expectancy is shorter than their more expensive counterparts. Regardless, with care both types can be preserved and make gardening chores easier.

A few simple steps...

First, remove all soil from garden tools. This can be done with a quick shot from your gardenhose or by chipping away the more stubborn clumps with a screwdriver. Be sure to wait until the tool has dried before storing it, so as to prevent rust and the much dreaded handle-rot. Rubbing with a cloth and linseed oil after each use prevents both handle-rot and rust.
