On April 22, WPC welcomed the Americorps Team chosen to work at Fallingwater for 2004. Americorps NCCC is a national service program for young adults modeled after the Civilian Conservation Corps of the 1930s. Working teams of 10 to 12 members travel across the United States to perform community service with focus on issue areas including unmet community needs, environment, education and public safety.
Americorps team member Chip Boyes took today's photo, and wrote the following about his experience during a six week Americorps project at Bear Run Nature Reserve.
"Spending the past six weeks in the woods working for Western Pennsylvania Conservancy awakened me to the simple joys in life I have ignored. Suddenly, I have become aware of the feel of the rocks under my feet, the warmth of the sun on my neck and the calming roar of Bear Run. I had become desensitized to such pleasures while I was blinded by thoughts of what my next action will be in a time-obsessed world. It felt great to work without paperwork, deadlines and timelines. I learned to tell time in moments instead of minutes listening to the unique sounds the forest produces through the day."
