Since its inception in 1932, Western Pennsylvania Conservancy has protected more than 210,000 acres of natural lands in the state, saving habitats for a diversity of life and uses. WPC continues to secure lands of ecological significance that frequently offer recreational and scenic values. In many instances, WPC acquires land and transfers this property to the Commonwealth as an addition to state forests, state parks and state game lands. But did you know that WPC also has land available for sale to the general public?
Working in and with communities, our goals are to build partnership opportunities with private landowners that further land conservation efforts in their community while permanently protecting lands and waters for their biological value, including their benefit to humans. Funds from the sale of these parcels, which will be sold with restrictions, will be used to further our conservation mission in other areas.
One such parcel available for purchase is in Henry Clay Township, Fayette County. This 217.03-acre property has good road access with frontage on both sides of Beaver Creek Road, an unimproved road, which bisects the northern part of the acreage. The majority of this tract is characterized as a young forest community with a generally level to steeply inclining topography. Ohiopyle State Park, on Route 381, is located to the north and it is a short drive to this recreation spot in the Laurel Highlands. Beaver Creek, a well-known fly-fishing site, with the headwaters near Nemacolin, runs through the property. Public utilities are limited to electricity and telephone service at the east and west boundaries of the site. WPC will be selling this unique, secluded property subject to restrictions on development and timbering according to best management practices (BMPs) for Pennsylvania forests. All oil and gas rights will continue to be held by Western Pennsylvania Conservancy. Asking price is $250,000
