Green Thumb Tuesday: Color Splashes for Summer Bloom

During May, Western Pennsylvania Conservancy works with 5,000 volunteers to place 350,000 flowering plants in the community gardens located in more than 170 communities. Some of the flowers that deliver the best "color show" even in the demanding situation of roadside or community center locations include the following:

Wave petunias, which come in many shades of bright pink, fuschia, and purple; and
Begonias that come in a wide range of colors including peach, reds, bright pink and white.

With minimal care, these plants can withstand full sun and even some periods of drought. A weekly watering can usually keep them at peak condition, and they will produce copious color until first frost.
