Green Thumb Tuesday: April Showers Bring May Flowers The first warm days of spring came in March this year, making us all impatient for the budding and flowering of trees and bulbs. Then come April showers, warming and nurturing the earth, coaxing the bulbs and leaves to emerge. While we may feel the rainy days are a discouragement, many bulbs are in fact flowering and expressing their own version of hope for warmer weather. Daffodils (pictured here at the Gateway Garden at Liberty Avenue & Commonwealth Place) can bloom spectacularly for many years, and need to be cut back in the early summer. The tulips at Gateway Center Faith Gallo's Garden (this year are a variety called “The Cure”) have been grown in dedication to the fight on breast cancer. Tulips are often only good for two to three years of full blooming. If you plan to move your existing bulbs take them out late spring and place them in a dry spot in a paper bag. Then in the fall plant them in the new location Today's photos were taken last week by WPC's Landscaping Serves Specialist Art DeMeo. E-mail Today's WPC Daily to a Friend!
