National Volunteer Week - Meet Dawn Miller On a Saturday in March, Dawn Miller, along with eleven other volunteers, marked boundaries of Western Pennsylvania Conservancy's 311 acre Toms Run tract. Volunteers hiked the often rough and steep terrain to post Western Pennsylvania Conservancy (WPC) boundary markers and blaze boundary trees with yellow paint. The Toms Run tract is located only 20 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh in Ohio and Kilbuck Townships. Many local citizens, some of which participated in the boundary posting, have hiked and hunted the Toms Run tract for years. Volunteer Chris Musser has been a frequent Toms Run visitor. Chris commented during the volunteer day that he never knew just how much land WPC owned in the Toms Run Valley and was glad to find out where the property boundaries run. Now that the boundaries are marked, volunteers and visitors can easily see just where the Toms Run tract is and have access to WPC contact information located on every boundary marker. WPC is looking for more volunteers interested in marking WPC boundaries. This is a great way to see other lands conserved by WPC.
