The one-room schoolhouse at Bear Run (left) and the Bear Run Church of the Brethren can be considered “the heart” of Bear Run, Pennsylvania. Bear Run residents were farmers and lumbermen, some of whom built Fallingwater. Today, all that remains of this community are these two buildings and the farm across the road, now The Barn at Fallingwater.
Teachers can learn more about this community's connection to the Fallingwater story at our Teacher's Day orientation workshop at the Barn at Fallingwater on Saturday, May 1, from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm. Led by Curator of Education, Sarah Cleary, the workshop will feature the premiere exhibit, "A Fallingwater Homecoming." Teachers will be guided through the exhibit, which highlights the local community´s role in the creation of Fallingwater, participate in our Land of Fallingwater tour (a guided interpretive hike in the Bear Run Nature Reserve), and learn about Fallingwater´s educational resources. A tour of Fallingwater completes the workshop. Act 48 hours are available for teachers in Pennsylvania through the Intermediate Unit 1. Registration is on the Intermediate Unit's website at www.iu1.k12.pa.us.
