New Moon National Volunteer Week -- Meet John Fogel Finding interns can be a daunting task. Even more so when they are unpaid. At WPC's Watershed Assistance Center (WAC), we are lucky enough to have two volunteer interns, who we will highlight today and Saturday. These two young men take time every week to come to the Watershed Center and collaborate with staff working on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other aspects of WAC's work, all while attending classes full-time. Not only do these guys gain valuable experience doing real conservation work, but they also help lighten the workload at the WAC so that we can do more with our time. Another great example of forming useful and valuable partnerships!
During my stay with WPC, I have been introduced to many new topics and people. My concentration has been on GIS, but the label "jack-of-all trades” could apply. I have attended public meetings, helped with field assessments, picked through bugs and worms, and helped with water samples. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and learned a lot on the way. If you know anyone interested in an internship or volunteering, this is the place to be. The atmosphere is great and the work is very rewarding.
