Tomorrow will be the anniversary of Liliane Kaufmann's birth in 1889. She was devoted to public health causes. Her work at Montefiore and Mercy Hospitals ranged from making policy in the boardroom to wrapping bandages in the emergency room. In 1934, she was elected President of Montefiore Hospital – the first and only female to head the Board of Trustees – and she served in this capacity for nine years. She was a longtime activist in the hospital as well as a major financial backer. Fallingwater, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, was Edgar and Liliane Kaufmann's weekend and vacation home. Now a house museum, it opens for weekends tomorrow and will begin its full season March 16th. When you tour the home you will notice medical books on the shelves, an indication of Liliane's interest in that subject. Attention: High school, college students and teachers...
