Extending WPC's Conservation Reach

In spring of 2003, Western Pennsylvania Conservancy developed a formal Conservation Buyer Program. The goal of this program is to assist individuals and communities interested in protecting property with significant natural resources, scenic or agricultural values. Through this approach, WPC sells property to conservation-minded individuals who are willing to purchase tracts with use restrictions and steward these lands as part of their ownership.

The majority of tracts to be divested through this program were either gifted to WPC or purchased as part of a larger transaction in which WPC acquired land in a targeted project area. These lands are then sold with deed restrictions that protect natural resource values. WPC maintains a list of properties that are available for purchase. One such property available for purchase is described below.

In 1980, WPC acquired a 6.8 acre lot in Triumph Township, Warren County. After an assessment by staff of the site's ecological value, it was determined that the lot would be sold to fund our conservation mission. This wooded parcel of land lies just across the road from the Allegheny National Forest and about one mile from the Allegheny River. The property is situated west of PA Route 127 near the town of Fagundus. This tract will be sold with restrictions on development and timber harvesting.

Today's photo was taken at the property. Visit WPC's Conservation Buyer Program Web site for pricing information and directions.
