Semper Praestestitis (Always Protecting)

Everyone can have a role in watershed remediation efforts. Members of the Blackleggs Creek Watershed Association and Boy Scouts of America Troop 24 are working together on an abandoned mine drainage discharge.

The Blackleggs Creek Watershed Association received a Growing Greener grant to install an abandoned mine drainage treatment system along Big Run. As a part of the treatment system, a wetland was installed to slow water down, allowing metals to drop out. The boy scouts assisted the watershed association by planting rushes and cattails in the new wetland. The two groups came together with assistance from WPC's Watershed Assistance Center.

Anne Daymut, OSM/VISTA with Blackleggs Creek Watershed Association & Cooperative Trout Nursery, provided today's photo. More information on Blackleggs Creek Watershed Association is available at www.blackleggs.org.
