Green Thumb Tuesday: Beginning a Gardening Journal As the new year begins, our thoughts turn to spring and the renewal of our green places. The dedicated gardener begins creating a gardening journal. A journal will help collect important details about your garden from year to year and aid in planning your plantings. When did you begin your garden? Why did you choose a certain plant, and how did you decide where to put it? These are the kinds questions to ask yourself and record in your garden journal. Write down both success stories, and those scenarios that did not play out as originally planned. Jot down any challenges that occurred and when and why they happened. Recording when you plant and mulch this year can serve as a guide for next year. A garden journal can remind you what weeds and pests you encountered and what you did to get rid of them. All of these entries can help with the following years' gardens. A successful garden is the result of garden planning and it's never too early to start.
