Sideling Hill Creek is not only a natural treasure, but also a part of the community's tradition. Historically, the people of the Sideling Hill Creek Watershed depended upon the creek for drinking water, fishing, and agriculture - among other things. Before refrigeration, the community relied upon Sideling Hill Creek for ice, which was cut out of the frozen stream and hauled to nearby icehouses. Pictured above is a turn-of-the-last century photo of work crews cutting and hauling ice blocks from a frozen Sideling Hill Creek.
