On May 17, Pennsylvanians will have the opportunity to invest in our natural areas when they go to the voting booths. Clean streams, scenic open space, productive farm and forestland and abundant wildlife provide the natural resource base for the Commonwealth's most important businesses and industries.
The ballot contains a referendum entitled "Growing Greener Bond Question" which, if it passes, will authorize the state to borrow up to $625,000,000 to use for open space and working farmland preservation, cleaning up abandoned mine drainage, protecting our watersheds, and many other essential conservation and environmental programs. No new taxes or fees are contained in the ballot question.
The question asks to borrow up to $625,000,000 for the maintenance and protection of the environment, open space and farmland preservation, watershed protection, abandoned mine reclamation, acid mine drainage remediation and other environmental initiatives.
We are asking everyone who is concerned about and committed to the state of Pennsylvania's environment to go to the polls on May 17, and vote YES on the Growing Greener question. All registered voters may vote. Although it is a primary election, voters registered independent or with third parties may still vote for the referendum.
Please help us spread the message to your friends, family, neighborhoods and communities. Primary elections tend to see smaller turnouts than general elections. We need every voter to come out and support this historic funding opportunity.
