Located in the heart of the Laurel Mountains, Linn Run State Park is a tract of parkland nestled along the boundary of Forbes State Park near the town of Rector, Pennsylvania. The park encompasses 612 acres of varied topography and a diverse mix of evergreen trees and hardwoods that are ideal for a myriad of outdoor activities from recreational activities like picnicking to sportsman-based activities such as hunting and fishing. This park is unique in that it was the first major public purchase of denuded land. Prior to its purchase by the Commonwealth in 1909, the area had recently been clear-cut and suffered from a series of wild fires. Almost completely barren and devoid of wildlife, this area was considered a wasteland by many. Representatives of the Commonwealth, however, had viewed this land for its real value as a resource to be revitalized and protected for future generations. Since its purchase, the area has been the focus of numerous conservation efforts to restore the area's natural beauty and heritage. Thanks to the success of these programs, today Linn Run State Park is thriving natural forested watershed with established populations of flora and fauna. As part of the Ohio River Basin, this area is once again rich in ecological diversity. Besides its scenic landscape, some other attractions to the area include Linn Run, which has been touted as an excellent stream for trout fishing, and also Adams Falls, a pristine, mountain waterfall amidst rhododendron and hemlock.
