Today's photo, from the WPC Resource Conservation archives, shows a kite taking flight at Presque Isle in Erie, Pa. March and April are generally regarded as the best months for kite flying, and Sunset Point on Presque Isle is thought by many to be one of the best places in Pennsylvania to take part in this sport.
If you can't drive to Erie but would like to test out your kite flying skills, seek out an open meadow away from kite predators like electrical wires and trees.
If you plan to try your hand at flying a kite, the National Kite Month website offers its "Ten Commandments of Kite Flying"
Thou shalt think "safety first" at all times
Thou shalt keep thy hands and feet off of other people's kites, lines and other equipment
Thou shalt NOT fly thy kite where it can become tangled with or cut another's lines
Thou shat remember the golden rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Thou shalt keep thy children and they self off of the "Advanced" or "Professional" fields, as accidents can be dangerous to the body and painful to thy wallet
Thou shalt stay in the spectator area when not flying thy kite
Thou shalt protect they skin and eyes from the ravages of the elements
