With the changing of the seasons, as well as the changing focus of many nature-lovers, many forget that late September and October can be prime fly-fishing time. Most anglers want to fish during the months of April through early July when the large dry fly hatches typically emerge. However, fishing in October can be very productive for fly-fishermen because the trout are preparing to spawn.
Trout usually spawn beginning in late October until February. They return to the stream where they were born, choosing spawning sites that are spring-fed headwaters, the head of a riffle, or the tail of a pool. Selected sites have good water flows through the gravel bottom. The female uses her body to excavate a nest in the gravel. The nest is more commonly referred to as a redd. A good flow of clean, well-oxygenated water is necessary for successful egg development.
So all of you fishing enthusiasts take advantage of the beautiful fall weather and cast your fly for one more fishing adventure!
