On Saturday, November 12, 2005 from 2 to 3 p.m., Presque Isle State Park in Erie, Pa, is offering an opportunity to learn how to identify common area birds, and discover how to apply your knowledge and sharpen your skills in providing extra care for area birds. No registration is required; however, details can be obtained by calling (814) 833-0351, or email presqueislesic@state.pa.us. Attendees should meet at the Stull Interpretive Center, found inside the park approximately one mile from the entrance.
The National Park Service designated the peninsula a National Natural Landmark because of diverse habitats found within its limited confines. These include: dune, sand plain, forest, pond, marsh, laoon and swamp. The peninsula is also designated an Audubon Important Bird Area. This variety of ecological communities provides ample habitat for an equally wide variety of birds, making Presque Isle one of Pennsylvania's birding "hot-spots." WPC's Outing Guide offers more details on where best to see birding activities at Presque Isle.
