Head into the night on Friday, October 28th, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., at Yellow Creek State Park with the park naturalist in search of these secretive birds of prey. Pre-registration is required, so please contact Denise Darnley at (724) 357-7913. Participants will meet at the Yellow Creek Environmental Learning Classroom, and are encouraged to bring a small flashlight.
Yellow Creek State Park is in Indiana County along one of the first “highways” in the state, the Kittanning Path. This trail was used by the Delaware and Shawnee nations and by early settlers. Today, US 422 roughly follows the old Kittanning Path, and provides the main access to the park from Indiana and Ebensburg. The park is named for Yellow and Little Yellow creeks, which create a lake. For directions and more detailed information, go to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) web site.
Today's photo was taken at Dragonfly Pond next to the environmental learning classroom at Yellow Creek State Park.
