The Gulf Tower pair fledged four young in 2007: three males and a female. A total of 59 young have fledged from the Gulf Tower from 1991 through 2007. The female at the nest in 2007 has nested there since 1998. The male has nested there since 2003; he hatched at the Cathedral of Learning nest the previous year.

Peregrine feeding her chicks
The pair at the University of Pittsburgh Cathedral of Learning has nested there since the platform was constructed in 2002. Both parents came from office buildings in other cities: the female hatched in Milwaukee, Wis. in 1999, and the male in Columbus, Ohio in 1998. They fledged two males and two females at the University of Pittsburgh in 2007, bringing their total number of fledglings to 22. The male successfully defended his nest against a challenger in March of 2007. The fight was captured in webcam images by the nest’s volunteer monitor, and the carcass of the intruder, a three-year old male from Cleveland, was found at the nest.
In 2007, Pittsburgh saw the doubling of its peregrine breeding population, with the discovery of two additional active nests in the region. Both nests are located on bridges and were discovered by local birders.
